26th IHF Men’s World Championship saw Denmark go through an unbeaten run throughout the competition and were eventually crowned as worldchampions on 27th January 2019. When Denmark defeated Norway with a score of 31:22 in Jyske Bank Boxen, Herning, spectators roared into celebration in a harmony. Denmark created history by winning all 10 of their matches in the championship as their home fans kept the stadium packed with attendance as well as support for their national team.
Mikkel Hansen from Denmark was the MVP of the championship. As Denmark’s left back Nikolaj Markussen said, “Nobody was even close to beating us in this tournament, so I think the title is very well-deserved!”
It is true, opponents werenowhere near the level of performance and skill of Denmark and their home fans realized that as soon as this elite championship started. The stadiums of 15,000 capacity remained packed and the home fans surely helped the team by being their extra man throughout the tournament.
As Norway took the second place, Germany, the co-host nation of this world championship did well in the tournament but could only secure the fourth spot for themselves as France defeated them for the bronze.
These 18 days went by in a hurry but there is no harm in saying that this championship had it all, best attacks, skilled players, strong defences and loud spectators. A truly commendable job done by Germany and Denmark by hosting this world championship so efficiently.
